I Ran Today!!

About a little over a month ago Min asked how my running was going. I beat around the bush a little but she realized it was pretty much non-existant. She then asked me if I would join her in running 30 more miles to represent the 30 Jer had left to complete 1000 miles. Thanks Min for doing this, I know you were probably afraid that I would stop running altogether and was giving me something to run for. Well being the pro-procrastinator that I am, I had reached 15 miles as of last night since Min had asked me to do the 30. I went to bed accepting defeat and not feeling to happy with myself. This morning I woke up and decided to do my routine 5 miler to at least get a little closer to that 30 mile goal. So I ran, I ran, and I ran. That 5 miler turned into 14.3 miles. When I reached my turn around point for my 5 miler I decided to give it my all and finish the 15. Because I hadn't previously mapped a 15 mile route I had no idea how far I had ran until I got home. I had a ball park idea since 8 Logan blocks are roughly a mile. So when I realized I had .7 miles left I decided I would finish with a 1 miler tonight on the treadmill. I did it!! I didn't beat any personal speed records but this is the farthest I have ever gone. Hope everyone is having a fun time with their training. Never get discouraged just keep running. I hope to hear more about everyones running experiences soon. Stay strong!
We went to Star Valley for about 6 days for Christmas. While we were there I was able to run three times totaling 8.5 miles. I was able to run up to 3.5 miles with no pain from my gall bladder! It feels so good to not worry about that any more. Now if I could just focus on distance then increasing my speed I would be set. It's so good to be back running. Happy running all of you!

Here I am, Rock me like a Hurricane

The past few days have been total suckage for me as far as running goes. I have had my kids, they wear me out. And mornings have been blah for me. And what happens when I wake up today with the energy, desire, and wherewithal to go running? 4 inches of fresh snow on the ground! I have no treadmill nor access to one, so what do I do? I go running in 4 inches of fresh snow while the kids are still sleeping! I ran about 2 miles, it felt more like 5. I wanted to do a whole Rocky IV thing, but there weren't any Russian political "advisors" following me in their Volga. It felt good though. RUN ON!
SO I ran another mile this morning and walked another mile. My ankle ached at first, but as I ran it got better so I kept increasing the speed until I maxed out our treadmill. Can't wait until my orthotics get here to see how they help. I sound like an old man. "I can't wait to try out my new cane" (I said that in my old man voice). Anyway, keep it up everyone!!

Run for life!

Monday, December 28, 2009

I woke at 4:30 this morning and after I lay there for a while I decided to get up and get stuff done. So I fed the horses and steers and then decided to run. It was kind of a whim. I ran a mile with only mild aching in my ankle. I'm not sure what that means but it sure felt good to run!

Christmas Run

My running this week has been all over the place. I woke up early on Monday since my day was so crazy that I had no choice!! I ran 6 miles and felt really good. I was wishing I had more time so that I could just keep going. Then on Wednesday I decided to sleep in and run whenever i got up. By the time I started running I hadn't eaten for so long that I had NO energy. I also had a huge headache so I walked/ran for only 5 miles. I was hoping for 8! I decided to break up my 8 miler into two different runs so I got the kids going on breakfast and ran 4 miles this morning. I'm not sure when I'm going to finish my last 5 miles, but hopefully before I get to S.V. Bruce said he'd run with me on Sat. morning if I wanted. The only problem is finding a babysitter for 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday! We'll see what happens. Hope everyone has a great and safe Christmas! Happy Running!

PT again

Went to PT this morning again and she has decided that the source of my ankle problem begins in my back with my ruptured disks. Who would have thought? Kimberli's foot trouble starts in her hip. Crazy, eh!? I'm glad I don't have to pay for the Therapist inflicting pain on us!

Here I go

I ran this morning for about 100 meters and felt fine. I came to work and went and was seen by one of our physical therapists and she really worked my ankle over. I was surprised how screwed up my ankle was, I mean besides the recent fracture. I liked it so much that I am sending Kimberli to her to have her evaluate her foot pain and see what we can do to fix that as well. It's just exciting to be doing something again.

Restarting

I had a visit with our physical therapist at the clinic and got some suggestions on how to start back up. He says I should only run 100 meters initially and see if the pain returns within two hours of running and then double it every day. If the pain returns I have to back down and stay there a while. He is also going to assess how I walk since I have injure this ankle so very many times in my life. This will hopefully prevent a re injury. By the end of this week I'll barely be at a mile but better safe than sorry. Mt plan was to start out at 1 mile and double it but since he knows a lot about this, I think I'll follow his advice. Hopefully by the new year I'll be back at running in earnest. Yippee!!!:)

Running With Bruce

So Bruce from Ragnar recently moved to Kamas. He said he would run with me anytime I wanted so we got together on Friday. We ran a 5 miler and had a great time. I'm not sure if he enjoyed it, but I sure did. It was nice to not have to think too much! I hate thinking. So I ended up with another 20 miles for the week. It was good to see some of you this weekend. Take care of yourselves and make sure you find time to run this week! Happy Running!

Back at it!

Hello all! Thanks for letting us join your team, we really appreciate it. So this is where I'm at as of now: besides today, I've only ran twice since the Vegas relay, once to finish my leg for the relay and a 10k on Nov. 7. I ran today and hope I can keep motivated to train strong from here on out. It was super cold this morning but I managed to run 5.3 miles in 46 minutes. I've gotten a little out of shape but there is plenty of time to improve. Might be a little early to talk leg assignments, but I would love to run one of the more challenging ones, thanks. Well as one of my playlists artists puts it: Strength is something you choose. Stay strong!

Holy Holidays!

I'm finding myself even less motivated than usual lately. I think it's because I'm focused on these darn holidays. AAARRRGGGHHH!!! Anyway, someone wanna come kick me in the butt? Or the head? Or the shin? Any of those places are fine. Guess I should just get off my fat rear and do it myself. GET OFF THE COUCH! RUN ON!

Not there yet

So I made my ankle ache when I was out feeding horses and steers in the middle of the night Sunday so I have stayed off it this week. I'll probably try walking 3 miles again tomorrow but plan to get back into things more earnestly next week. I'm going to have to take it slow still but I will start running short distances not more than a mile total a day next week and see how things go.

Time To Brag (again)

So I accomplished another one of my goals today. I wanted to do a 10 miler before Christmas and I got it done today!!! YAY MIN!!! I ended up doing in on the treadmill which was kind of a bummer but it was alright. I think I broke my little DVD player though, uh oh. I guess Jer knew what he was talking about, he usually did. Anyway, the weather was beautiful and I had a babysitter lined up. Gage hadn't napped for 2 days so I decided Gage needed a nap. I just ran while he slept. I feel really tired but I had no knee pains so I guess my few days of rest was good for me! We are going to go swimming tonight so maybe I'll sneak into the hot tub, we'll see. Haven't seen much chatter on here this week, hope everyone is doing well. Happy Running!

First Run

Yesterday I did my first run since my surgery and it went well. I only did a mile because I am working back up to where I was and hoping to avoid over doing it at first. Unfortunately it was too yucky outside to run so I was on my treadmill. I was slow but I wasn't hurting and having all the pain I had before my surgery, so fingers crossed I will be better than ever. It feels good to be back at running after a two month vacation.

Below zero running

Let me tell you fine people something. Running in temperatures below zero is not fun. It's awesome fun! My nose hairs were froze, I'm pretty sure I got frostbite on my toes, and I still can't feel my fingertips! Still and all, the running would probably be much better if I weren't slipping so much in the snow. But I love it all. Welcome to the new members of our team. Did they go through the initiation? Better get on it! Keep running everybody! RUN ON!

Sweet!

So, I ran 5 miles in 44:15. I never in my life thought I'd run that far for any reason. Amazing what family will do to you. I ran it on our treadmill. Yes we got a treadmill. It's been nice to have, because I'm lazy and don't want to run outside. Seems like I can breath easier on the treadmill than when I'm running outside. I don't know why.

Friday, December 11, 2009

Hello

I just wanted to say thanks for letting us on your team. The Vegas Relay was my first one so I'm a little nervous about this one especially since all of these legs are harder than what I ran in Vegas. Anyway tomorrow is going to be my first run since I had surgery so I hope it goes well.

Done For the Week

I decided that I didn't want to pack running clothes to Logan so I ran a little extra this week to get my 20 miles in 3 days. I ran 6 miles on Monday, 7 miles on Wednesday, 7 miles last night. I was having knee issues on the last mile of my last two runs. Hopefully its just old body and nothing to worry about. It's probably good that I have a few rest days. I'm still trying to figure out when I'm going to do my 10 miler. I'm runing out of time :) Hope you all have wonderful runs this weekend!

onward, ever onward

I did 3 miles yesterday and today but I just increased the grade and walked uphill. So far so good. No pain. That uphill business is hard work! I think get up earlier tomorrow and try for 4 miles.

Back at it, sort of?

So, I walked 2 miles this morning in 30 minutes and did not have a twinge of pain in my ankle. I amd going to go for 4-5 tomorrow and see how I do. It feels good to be doing something again. I can't believe how much I missed it. I still have to exercise an immense omount of will power not to increase the speed and start running. Min, this spring after the thaw, I want to do our run again so I can see how much fun it is.

More Bragging

I bettered my 5 mile time by 2+ minutes last Saturday. 46:21.

dead week

So finals are coming up, you know like in a couple of days. And I found out why they call it dead week, cause you are dead to all else except your classes, and of course the BYU rivalry basketball game, which USU won 71-61, in case anyone cares. And so my runs have suffered so. But I did do a couple miles this morning and hopefully after finals are over things will settle down, if only a little, so I can get some more miles in

One More Week

I just want to start out by telling you guys how proud I am of you. Many of you laughed a lot when I started enjoying running, and now you can see why I do it! Just wait until after the race. You will feel so proud of what you have accomplished.
Now onto my running. This week was very emotional for me and it showed in my runs. I struggled to find time and energy to do much. I ran 5 on Monday, 4 on Wednesday, with a lot of it walking breaks, and then 9 on Friday, 3 on Saturday. I made my goal mileage but man was it hard! Have any of you tried to run while you are sobbing uncontrollably? It's not pretty. But I made it and hopefully next week will be even better. I'm trying to figure out when I can run my 10 before Christmas. Hopefully the time will show itself. I've had to run on the treadmill all week also, which is never fun. The temp has just been way to cold. Anything below 0 is to cold for me! Here's to hoping all of our runs are much much better this week!! Keep Running!

Goal Achieved

I made the goal when I started running that I wanted to run 5 miles by Thanksgiving weekend. I did it! Last Saturday I ran 5 miles in 48:48. I feel pretty good about that. I looked at the training schedule that Ragnar has on their site and I see what I need to do. Next goal: run 6 miles by Christmas, then start running every day. Wasatch Back here I come.

can't wait for Monday

I can't wait for Monday! did I already say that? I am going to start walking on the treadmill. I have been braceless all this week and the ankle is feeling very good. So now it is time to put it to the test. We'll see how it goes.

another new record!

So, today I set a new record. It's not one I'm fond of or particularly proud of, but I did it! I ran 2 miles and puked 4 times! Upper respiratory blockage is a wondrous thing! But I'm still running. I've put the two-a-days on hiatus. Min talked about building a base, and I still haven't done that. I thought I could be Superman, or maybe a mixture between Wolverine and The Hulk, but I am not. I'm just Brendan. So I'm going to start over and try to build a good solid base before I go all crazy! Good luck y'all. You inspire me every day. RUN ON!

p.s. Mic, I walked a bit on the run from Kimberli and Jonathan's to Mom and Dads. I ain't gonna lie. It hurt.

p.p.s. The music was not offensive. Just lame. LAME! Not inspiring. HAHAHAHA!

cholesterol test

So I got my cholesterol test levels back. I'm not sure what to do. Is 174 a good number?

Music

So was the music not appreciated? I'm sorry if I offended.

Yesterday I awoke late so I did a short run. Did 2 miles in 17 minutes. I'm not stretching as I should at the end. My calves are sore. lame.
